Let Your LIVER Tell You Something

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the liver dictates the body’s energy flow or chi (pronounced ‘chee’). The liver channels (or meridians) end in our eyes, so when we use our eyes a lot—like looking at a computer screen for hours at a time—stagnation results. Liver chi stagnation can lead to all sorts of symptoms, such as anger, mood swings, constipation, or pain on the sides of the body.

You don’t have to run out and get acupuncture (“but it couldn’t hurt”), you can simply close your eyes. An easy fix! Yes, start with closing your eyes for 3-5 minutes at least every 2 hours and work up to 10-15 minutes. Beware of this side effect, though—you may find yourself peacefully meditating (smile) and then there’s that happy liver!

  • I know just what you mean about the liver being happier when we take the time to meditate. It needs freedom from stress and strain to “cleanse” the body of toxins, as I painfully found out while working in a STAT lab in a hospital for over 45 years. Toxins built up, for me especially uric acid, and I was feeling those “needles” of the crystals in my joints!! I gently took 6-8 weeks of liver-cleansing herbs with lots of water and STOPPED taking the large doses of ibuprophen the rheumatoid “specialist” had me on!. My uric acid returned to normal and I told the dr. I would not need pain med or HIM anymore. Those meds are HARD on the kidneys AND liver compounding the problem. I made sure I got more rest, too. Any health store can tell you the herbs used to cleanse the liver, but do NOT forget the extra water, rest, AND meditation. Getting out in NATURE, hiking, walking, and putting your butt on a rock is therapeutic. And it costs not a cent!
